Lowertown to Add Artistic Flair Lofts

One year from now, Saint Paul's Lowertown will have an additional 40 market-rate lofts and apartments to aid in creating buzz around the area.  The lofts and apartments will have a high level of design, with strong artistic flair, bringing millennials to their doorsteps.  The lofts curated for millennials will transform from the current housing and studio spaces artists utilize in the Jax Building.Blog Image

The Jax Building was built in 1909 in the Classical Revival Style, however, the architect is unknown as the original permit was lost. The building was originally built for $131,000 for the Michaud Brothers grocery business. The Michaud brothers were French Canadian and came to Saint Paul in 1854. In 1881 it was written that the business firm was expected to reach sales of $250,000, which made it the largest retail firm west of Chicago. The Jax Manufacturing Company, which made automobile seat covers, later moved into the building along with a luggage store.

The work renovating the building is expected to begin ASAP, with completion in June 2017.  To get a sneak peek to the designs and floor plans, or to secure your spot in Lowertown's newest lofts, contact us!
