After three years of airplane noise above a specified level, eight blocks in Southwest Minneapolis - 137 houses and 88 apartment units - will be notified they are qualified to get Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) updates to their homes. These homes are mostly in the Lynnhurst neighborhood, with a small amount in the Tangletown neighborhood. MAC's Noise Mitigation Program comes in the form of additional insulation, new siding, new windows, and upgrading or adding heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units. To see if your property has been selected, view the MAC Residential Noise Mitigation Program Third-Year Eligibility List by clicking here.
The MAC's Sound Insulation Program and Noise Mitigation Program efforts began in 1992 and have continued through the years to reduce aircraft noise impacts associated with Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) by providing noise reducing modifications to homes, apartment buildings and schools.
The original Sound Insulation Program (1992-2005) and the Consent Decree Noise Mitigation Program (2008-July 31, 2014) are closed. The Consent Decree First Amendment Program began in March 2014.
Homeowners who would like to participate in the Consent Decree First Amendment Program must first determine if their home is eligible. To learn more about this program, click here.
Buying homes that have gone through the MAC update enhances the ease of living, bringing comforts of air conditioning and better sound insulation to homes built before and after World War 2.
